The Battle at Stones River was a pivotal moment in the Civil War, with the northern and southern armies fighting for control of middle Tennessee in 1862. Visit this historical site for an unforgettable walk through history.

The park hosts battle re-enactments and tours by National Park Service rangers. You can also visit the Stones River National Cemetery, where you can pay respect to fallen soldiers and come to understand the human stories behind one of the darkest times in American history.

Discovery Center at Murfree Spring

At the Discovery Center, all adventurers are welcome. Spend a day at this interactive children’s museum located near downtown Murfreesboro. Take the kids on a walk through Tiny Town, a roleplay community featuring a mini Publix and Home Depot, or give them a crash course in firefighting with an actual fire truck from 1954!

Once you’ve viewed the exhibits, venture out to our wetlands boardwalk. Walk as much or as little of the trail as you’d like, which surrounds 20 acres of natural Tennessee marsh. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot a river otter or two!

If you’ve ever found yourself longing for simpler times, take a stroll through Cannonsburgh Village. Located in the heart of historic Murfreesboro, this family-friendly park presents an idyllic portrait of Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s. Enjoy a free, self-guided tour through a gristmill, a one-room schoolhouse, a wedding chapel, a telephone operator’s house, and many other reconstructed buildings.
